The 2012 Jeep Pickup Truck

Jeep has not released a pickup truck since the 1986 Comanche. And while the Scrambler was briefly shown at the 2003 NADA Convention in San Francisco, it never went into production. In 2005, Jeep once again showcased another pickup truck concept called the 2005 Jeep Gladiator. It was just a market study back then, but it wasn’t just the Jeep fans whose attention they got, a great deal of spectators were intrigued about it too.

It’s a Jeep Thing

Nothing’s for sure right now, but it supposedly closely resembles the 2005 Jeep Gladiator concept and it will retain the rugged functionality of the iconic Jeep Wrangler, of course. It also features an external spare wheel and tire, as well as the recognizable Jeep fender flares. It has a color palette of Armor Green with Dark Slate Grey accents, weatherproof seats and an interior that can be easily hosed down to clean. One look at the Gladiator and you’ll know it’s a Jeep.

Powerful and Innovative Features

Jeep was only testing out the waters during the unveiling of the Gladiator concept back then, but features such as a 2.8-Liter turbo diesel engine that can make up to 163 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, like the one available as an option for the Jeep Liberty, an expandable truck bed and a retractable canvas roof were all cited, as well as removable doors and a fold-down windshield.

Coming in 2012?

PickupTrucks.com reported that CEO Mike Manley showed dealers a 2012 Jeep pickup truck. Production is expected to start on the 3rd quarter of 2011 and it will be badged as a 2012 model. With the 2005 Jeep Gladiator being well-received, a lot of people are hopeful that these reports are indeed true and that the final design stays true to the Jeep brand and lifestyle. If it does, then a lot of people will surely line up for it.
